KSCA Members – Please Support Upcoming Board of Supervisors Motion

[Exact Time To Be Announced]

A motion by Chair Hilda L. Solis and Supervisor Ridley-Thomas titled “Analysis of the Sale of Keiro Senior HealthCare Service Facilities” will be voted on by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors (BOS) at their meeting on Tuesday, April 12. For details of the motion, please see below.

It is important to have as many KSCA Members who wish to show their support of the motion, attend this BOS meeting. So please mark your calendar.  We will follow up with another email once we know more details about the approximate time frame when the motion will come up on the agenda in order to give you a better time frame.

DETAILS OF THE MOTION

Solis and Ridley-Thomas move that the Board of Supervisors:

  1. Resolve that the welfare and safety of Keiro residents is in the public interest;
  2. Direct the Director of the Dept of Consumer and Business Affairs, in coordination with County Counsel and the Interim Director of the Dept of Public Health, to investigate claims of wrongdoing during the course of the transaction;
  3. Direct the Interim Director of the Department of Public Health to provide information on skilled nursing facilities located within a 5-mile radius of Keiro Senior Healthcare facilities, the ability of these facilities to address the multiple language needs of residents, and the current evidence base and best practices related to social and community needs of seniors, and report back to the Board in 60 days with this analysis; and
  4. Instruct the Chief Executive Officer to prepare a five signature letter to the Attorney General urging her to help protect Los Angeles County residents by dedicating sufficient resources to monitor and enforce continued compliance with the conditions of sale; and to ensure appropriate community oversight of the facilities.

    As a working person who is very concerned about how this recent sale impacts the residents, employees, and community of Keiro, what do we do at this point? Do we write emails/letters or make calls to our respective Supervisors? To Hilda Solis and Mark Ridley-Thomas? Perhaps if the Supervisors receive a significant number of emails and calls prior to April 12th, it will not only back up those in attendance and really show the level of concern. Of course, I and family and friends would love to attend in support on April 12th, but with such short notice and work/school obligations, would be unable.

    And if emails or would be a good strategy, could you advise in important points to address? For many, an advised “script” would be very helpful.

    Thanks so very much!
